BOWLING RINK CHAMPIONSHIP. (“Times-Age” Special.) Saturday was an ideal day for bowls, and five rinks played on the wellprepared green. The club’s rink championship ended in a win for Sorensen’s rink after a close game. Afternoon tea was supervised by the Misses Sorensen, who were acorded a hearty vote of thanks. The results of the games were as follow: — Champion rink.—Pankhurst, Steven, Simmonds, Sorensen (s) beat Kilmister, King, Curtis, Harp (s), 21/18. Friendly games—Carter, W. Hart, Barr (s) beat Foss, DeLacey, Stent (s), 32/23; E. H. Smith, Hill, Riggs, Hughan (s) beat Colson, Hawker, Harris, Tucker (s), 21/16; J. Udy, Hall, Spooner, Daysh (s) beat Rayner, Adams, McCarty, Newbould (s), 18/16; Matson, Beaven, Martin, Barber (s) drew with Smith, Booth, Bain, G. Hart (s), 19/19. Personal Items'. The death occurred at Chester Road, Clareville, on Saturday, of Judith Nairene, youngest daughter of Mr H. J. and the late Constance Mary McKenzie, at the age of 15 years. Besides her father, she leaves a brother, Andrew James McKenzie, and a sister, Mary, who is a member of the W.A.A.F., Christchurch. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to relatives in their bereavement. The funeral will be a private one. Constable Gillies, who has been on his annual leave, returned to duty this morning. Bins for Rubbish, The Carterton Borough Council has placed three rubbish bins in Memorial Park. For some time past paper and other waste matter has been thrown' all over the Park. It is hoped that in future residents and visitors who visit the park will put their rubbish in the bins provided. Children are also asked to co-operate in the matter. This is the first move in the scheme of the Borough Council to educate local residents to keep their town tidy. Patriotic Concert. The concert staged in the State Theatre on Saturday evening by the Carterton Maori Tribal Committee, with the assistance of the Greytown Maori Party under the leadership of Messrs E. Kingi and G. Turei, was greeted with a full house. Each item was given in native' costume and was encored. The dance after the concert was well attended. The Maori concerts are always popular, and local residents express the hope that another one will be given in the near future. Municipal Baths. ♦ The Carterton municipal swimming baths throughout the season have been well patronised. With members of the American forces the baths are a favourite spot. They consider Carterton’s swimming pool one of the best they have seen. The caretaker, Mr J. McKenzie, reports that the attendance is above the average, and it is pleasing to note that many children have learned to swim this season. Last Thursday 260 children and adults used the baths, and on this particular day seventy bicycles were parked at the baths. School Committee. The Carterton District High School Committee meeting, which was to have been held tonight, has been postponed until Monday, March 8. REGENT THEATRE “SUN VALLEY SERENADE.” The brilliant comedy-drama, “Sun Valley Serenade,” will be shown tonight. Sonja Henie and John Payne are seen in outstanding roles. It is one of the most spectacular pictures ever produced.
