SWEEPS AND PATROLS
MANY ATTACKS BY ALLIED FIGHTERS HEAVY & MEDIUM BOMBERS. ACTIVE. FIRES STARTED AT BIZERTA. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) RUGBY, February 26. Our lighters carried out sweeps and patrols over the whole Tunisian front yesterday. Attacks were made on enemy vehicles. One enemy fighter was destroyed. Fighter bombers attacked motor transports and landing grounds near Gabes. On Wednesday night Bisleys, continuing our attack on the withdrawing enemy forces bombed targets at or near Sbeitla and Gafsa. An ammunition dump was hit and fires were left burning at both places. Heavy and medium bombers from the Middle East attacked Gabes and the Mar- ”, eth Line. Yesterday flying Fortresses, escorted by Lightnings and covered by
Spitfires, bombed docks at Bizerta, and started fires. Two enemy fighters were shot down by escorts.. Three of our aircraft are missing. One aircraft previously reported as missing is safe, whle the pilot of- another is safe,
