CARTERTON

BOWLING PRAGNELL CUP CONTEST. (“Times-Age” Special.) W. Sorensen journeyed to Grey town last evening and played a game for the Pragnell Cup against F. Harrington whom he defeated by 23/17. The semi-final game in the club’s champion pairs was played on the Carterton green last evening between Pankhurst and Barr (s) and DeLacey and Hughan (s), the former winning by 17/12. The final will be played between Daysh and McCarty (s) and Pankhurst and Barr (s). Church Service. A Church of England service will be conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. W. F. Stent, at Waihakehe on Sunday next. Sharp Earthquake. A..sharp earthquake was felt in Carterton at 1.30 o’clock this morning. Building Society. A meeting of directors of the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society was held last evening, Mr L. H. Smart presiding. Two ballots were drawn. The first ballot resulted in Mrs H. McKay (Featherston) obtaining £6OO, and Mrs G. A. Williams (Garrison Street, Carterton) £l5O. In the second ballot Mr W. Routhan, Carterton, drew £3OO, and Mr C. N. Wallis, Palmerston North, £6OO. Blood Transfusion. The Carterton blood transfusion service received its first call for blood donors last evening at 11 o’clock. Four donors were required by the Greytown Hospital and within half an hour they were available. Thanks are due to the donors for the prompt manner in which they responded to the call. Many more are required in the district to meet natural and wartime emergencies. Dr. W. J. C. Wells or Mr D. Whisker would be pleased to receive the names of those willing to contribute to this national service. REGENT THEATRE DOUBLE FEATURE BILL. Tonight there will be presented a double feature programme, headed by “Birth of the Blues,” a brilliant musical comedy, and “Glamour Boy,” an excellent comedy.
