ALFREDTON
PATRIOTIC SOCIETY ENJOYABLE CARD PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The local Patriotic Society held a very enjoyable card party in the local hall. The winners at cards were: —Ladies: Mrs L. Cooper. Men: Messrs O. Walker, R. Low and F. Johnson. In the ladies’ aggregate, Mrs Weston and Mrs Low tied, Mrs Low winning the draw. For ’the consolation, prize, Mrs Williams and Mrs Walker tied, Mrs Williams winning the draw. The ladies’ aggregate prize was presented by Miss E. McLean. The men’s aggregate prize was won by Mr Weston. It was donated by T. Smith. The men’s consolation was won by Mr O. Walker. A competition for a box of groceries, donated by Mrs W. Dickens realised £2 4s 6d and was won by Mrs T. Smith. A dinner donated by Mrs E. Seymour brought £2 5s fid, and was won by Mrs Nelson. The following goods, etc., were donated and auctioned by Mr R. Kebbell: Pears from Mrs H. Percy; cabbages, Mr G. Godinagh and Mr C. Leach; carrots and beet, Mr C. Leach; damsons and marrows, Mrs Nelsorr beet, Mrs Clee; beans, Mrs Nelson; honey, H. Percy. The hostesses were Mesdames Harcombe, S. Smith and Miss E. McLean. Personal Items. Mrs A. Edmonds has returned home after having spent a weekend at New Plymouth. Mr V. Payne, who underwent an operation in the Pahiatua Hospital, JS making satisfactory progress. Mrs Milford and Miss Jones have returned to Lower Hutt after’ having been the guests of Mrs L. Cooper. Mrs Didsbury is visiting her daughter, Mrs Neilson. Mr Meechin, of the railway staff, Wellington, has been the guest of Mr S. Edmonds.
