McKenzie 3. Relay race: L. King, H. Robinson, D. McKenzie and L. Patterson, 1; J. Berry, P. Bond, B. Desmond and N. Desmond, 2. S.M. COURT CASES DEALT WITH YESTERDAY. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided over 1 the monthly sitting of the Carterton Court yesterday, when the following cases were dealt with: — Civil cases—Hill and Hughes, Ltd., v. R. R. and I. N. R. Simpson, claim £2O. Judgment was given for plaintiff for the amount claimed, with costs £3 3s 6d Charles B. Collinge v. A. W. Luscombe, claim £l3 4s Id. Judgment was given for the amount claimed, : with costs and witness’s expenses am--1 ounting to £lO 0s 6d. 1 A. E. Ansell (Transport Department) proceeded against R. C. Copeland on a charge of having exceeded the speed limit of 30 miles per hour on the main highway at Carterton on December 24. A fine of £3 with costs was imposed. A. E. Ansell charged Chapman and Sons with having, on December 21, 1942, carried stock by motor vehicle on the main highway outside their carrying area, without having obtained a permit from the Masterton Goods Transport Control Committee. Defendant pleaded not guilty. After having heard the evidence at some length, Mr Lawry adjourned the case sine die. The police charged Brian L. Aplin with having delivered a .22 calibre rifle to a person other than the one en--1 titled to obtain the same. The magistrate ordered the rifle to be returned to defendant. Judgment was given in a case heard at a recent court sitting, wherein L. J. Williams, on October 31, 1942, being a person other than the licensee of the Club Hotel, sold intoxicating liquor to a member of an armed force, Pte. H. K. Macintosh, when he was in uniform, for consumption elsewhere than on the licensed premises where it was sold. Defendant was fined £3, with costs 10s. C. E. Larsen, being the licensee of the Club Hotel, was similarly charged, and a fine of £5, with costs 10s, was imposed. BOWLING KELLY CUP CONTEST. Two members of the Park Club, Masterton, played a match at Carterton yesterday for the Kelly Cup. The game was very closely contested. At the 17th head the challengers led by 18 to 12. Thereafter the holders scored eight points, to eventually win by two point.s The players and scores were: L. A. DeLacey and R. Foss (s), Carterton, beat J. Goodwin and Stimpson (s), Park, 20/18. Personal. The funeral of the late Mr Fred Wadham took place at' the Clareville Cemetery yesterday and was largely attended. Many beautiful floral wreaths were received. The services at the house and graveside were conducted by the Rev W. J‘ Couling. The pallbearers were Messrs Alan, Kay, Gavin and Don Couling, Frewin and Bro Jas' Fisher, representing the Foresters’ Lodge. P.C.R. Bro C. K. Goodin read the Foresters’ funeral service at the graveside. Successful Garden Party. Amid the beautiful surroundings of the garden, so well cultivated and kept by Mr J. D. Hunt, Sent., Mrs Williams and Mrs Hunt (Park Road) conducted a successful garden party yetserday in the interests of the Salvation Army. Competitions, games, short-story telling, and walks through the grounds, combined with a dainty afternoon tea, all helped to make a most happy and interesting gathering. The one stall was well patronised. REGENT THEATRE DOUBLE PROGRAMME. “The Birth of the Blues” (a musical comedy of a high standard) and "Glamour Boy” (a brilliant comedy) will head the programme at the Regent i Theatre tonight.
