BOROUGH COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING COLLECTION OF RATES. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council, Mr W. Olsen presided. It was reported that the following building permits had been granted since the last Council meeting:—?. A. Petersen, Eketahuna, erection of offices, £700; Mrs B. Gallagher, repairs and renovations, £lOO. It was stated that the paint had arrived for painting the pavilion at the Domain, but that a fair amount of timber work required to be done before the painting could be undertaken. It was reported that 95 per cent of the rates for 1942-43 had been collected. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs White, Wellington, spent the week-end with Mr and Mrs A. Gray, Stanley Street. Sapper William Olsen, Newman Road, is an inmate of the Palmerston North Public Hospital. Mi’ Maurice Carter, Feilding, spent, a few days with his mother, Mrs A. S. Carter, Anderson Street. The death occurred on Monday, at the residence of his son, Lower Hutt, of Mr George Jesson, a very old resident of Eketahuna. He was in business here for nearly 40 years as a watchmaker and jeweller.
