BOROUGH RATES

PERCENTAGE OF COLLECTION. POSITION AT PENALTY DAY. The percentage of rates collected by the Masterton Borough Council up to penalty day, February 22, was 97.4. This compares with 98.3 per cent last year, and 97.5 per cent in 1941. The percentage this year was affected to a limited degree by certain town premises having been taken over by Government departments, for which no rates have been paid. The total rate levy for the past year was £40,183, as compared with £37,731 in the previous year. The amount collected up to penalty date was £37,376 (£35,505), and the discount allowance was £1777 (£1672).
