FIRE AT OTAHUHU
OLD LANDMARK DESTROYED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) OTAHUHU, This Day. One of. Otahuhu’s oldest landmarks, the Public Hall, was destroyed by fire at 2.30 o’clock, yesterday morning. The building was burning fiercely when the brigade arrived, so all efforts were concentrated on saving three shops fronting the main street and the adjourning buildings. All the books belonging to the Otahuhu Public Library were destroyed. The property is owned by the Elite Furnishing Company and the loss is estimated at £3OOO. The hall was built 80 years ago and the library was founded 63 years ago.
