INDUSTRY AND COMMERCE

POST WAR PLANNING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 23. The imperative need of planning for industrial and commercial collaboration after the war was urged by Mr L. A. Eady, president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, at its annual meeting today. He declared that the rigidity of State management had proved an insuperable handicap to business enterprises in New Zealand, but it appeared certain they'would have to accept a measure of State action in commerce and industry. He believed the answer was in a method that should balance the State organising power and the driving force of free individuals. Such a plan was already operating successfully in Switzerland, and was being discussed by leading industrialists in England. It provided for industries organising their own national group councils, which were responsible for the broad control of industries while establishing Government contact with employers and workers who were both represented. Thus industry was responsible for organising itself in management, producting and marketing.
