U.S.A. NAVAL LOSSES
SUBMARINE AND DESTROYER. ENEMY SUPPLY SHIP SUNK. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) WASHINGTON, February 21. A Navy Department communique states that the United States submarine Argonaut has failed to return from patrol operations and is presumed lost. A United States naval unit operating in the Western Aleutians on February 20 engaged and sank a Japanese supply ship. Aircraft on February 19 and 20 executed a number of bombing attacks on Japanese airfields at Vila Munda. Large fires were started. Hits were scored an anti-aircraft installations. One plane failed to return from these attacks. The United States destroyer announced sunk on February 1 by Japanese air attack south of Savo Island was the Dehaven. The Argonaut Was a 2710 ton minelaying submarine, the largest in the American Navy and possibly in the world. The Dehaven, 2100 tons, was one of the nev/iest and greatest of destroyer types. i
