FEATHERSTON
OBITUARY MR H. S. BURT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The death occurred in the Masterton Hospital on Wednesday of a highly respected resident of Featherston in the person of Mr H. S. Burt at the age of 76 years. He had only been ill for three weeks. The late Mr Burt was a son of the late Mr and Mrs D. F. B. Burt, pioneer settlers of the Featherston district. The late Mr Burt followed the occupation of a blacksmith and was considered one of the most expert tradesmen to be found in the Wellington province. He was originally apprenticed to the late Mr C. McIlvride, of Lower Hutt, and later commenced business on his own account. He took a keen interest in sport, the Burt family being noted for their activities in football, cricket and shooting. He was a noted shot in the days when the Featherston Volunteers! contained some of the best riflemen and gun shooters in the Wairarapa, Mr Burt being an expert with a shotgun. His genial disposition and sympathetic character made for him many friends who will learn with deep regret of his death. Mrs Burt died in 1902 and he leaves two daughters (Mrs J. Blain, Featherston, and Mrs R. Tocker, South Featherston), and one son (Mr Stan Burt, of Lansdowne). The funeral took place this afternoon. Citizens’ Wartime Service. A citizens’ wartime service will be held in the Town Hall on Sunday evening, commencing at 7 o’clock. The preacher will be the Rev. J. R. Higgs, Vicar of Featherston, and the combined choir will toad the singing. Personal. Miss Mutter, who had been spending a few days in Wellington, returned home today. COSY THEATRE TWO BIG ATTRACTIONS. There will be two big attractions at the Cosy Theatre tonight. “Parachute Nurse” tells a thrilling story, with Marguerite Chapman, William Wright and Kay Harris in the leading roles. Nortn From the Lone Star” is a wild west drama with Bill Elliott portraying the chief character.
