The weekly routine orders of the Masterton Air Training Corps are:— Parades will be held at Wairarapa College at 7.50 p.m. as follows:—Monday, February 22, maths., science and navigation; Thursday, February 25, drill, P.T. and signals. All recently enrolled cadets will be boarded at this evening’s parade. They are required to bring the completed declaration of allegiance form for attestation. Humane Work. / “I have seen admirable results and the money spent on this humane work is well spent,” said Mr J. F. Thompson at yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board, when it was decided to assist the Crippled Children’s Society to the extent of two-thirds of an amount estimated between.£7s and £lOO to enable a child with a hare-lip and a cleft palate to undergo a remedial operation. Women Frightened by Night Prowler. Of late a man has been seen hanging around dance halls in Masterton at night and then following unescorted women home, considerably frightening them. Last night he followed a girl up Essex Street and when she crossed the road he did likewise. Becoming alarmed at the man’s conduct she made her way through a gate towards a house and the man ran after her, but on seeing a light in the building he hastily decamped. The parents of the girl were communicated with but a search failed to find the man. It is understood that the man has been recognised and residents in the street promise him a “warm reception” when they contact him. Woman Price Control Inspectors. Four women inspectors are to be appointed, one in each of the main centres, to check up on the observance by traders of the price control regulations and the price orders made by the Price Investigation Tribunal. They will be trained before taking up their duties. The tribunal’s male inspectorate has been strengthened in recent months. Five additional inspectors have been appointed to the head office Staff, two in the Auckland district, one in Dunedin, and one for the South Canterbury district, who has his headquarters in Christchurch; another inspector for the West Coast will also have his headquarters in Christchurch. The tribunal at present, has only one woman inspector, who was appointed last year and has been attached to the head office staff. It is stated that more women inspectors will be appointed later.
