FRENCH WARSHIPS
OPERATION UNDER ALLIED LEADERSHIP. ASSIGNMENT 'NOT YET DECIDED UPON. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 16. The French warships will be under the French command but will operate under Allied leadership wherever they are assigned, the American Secretary of the Navy, Colonel Knox, told the Press. tFor example, in the Mediterranean they would operate under Admiral Cunningham, and in the Pacific under Admiral Nimitz. Their assignment had not yet been decided. Colonel Knox added that there were no new developments in connection with the warships in the French West Indies, including the aircraft-carrier Bearn and the cruisers Jeanne d”Arc and Emile Bertin.
