GREYTOWN HOSPITAL
COMPLAINTS ABOUT A WARD. HOPES OF REMEDYING POSITION. “The position regarding alterations and ward extensions at the Greytown Hospital is most unsatisfactory,” said Mr J. F. Thompson at today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board. “I have, in the past, called the internal ward at the Greytown Hospital the ‘black hole of Calcutta,’ ” said Mr Thompson. “It is still dark and badly ventilated,” he added. Mrs S. Fletcher: “It is most insanitary.” Mr H. H. Mawley (chairman) said it was hoped to alter the position as quickly as present day conditions would allow. 1 The board’s architect, Mr F. C. Daniell, advised regarding buildings generally that difficulty was being experienced in obtaining priority in materials and in manpower. Contractors from outside areas were gradually being released to come to the Wairarapa for earthquake repair and other work. Mr Mawley said there was a delay in having plans completed as the Department of Health was without the services of one of its architects.
