MEDICAL STAFF
POSITION AT MASTERTON HOSPITAL. PAYMENT OF FEES. At today’s meeting in Masterton of the Wairarapa Hospital Board it was decided that Dr. J. C. Forsyth be granted leave of absence on account of pressure of work from the part-time medical staff of the Masterton Hospital for a year, commencing from February 1, 1943. The board appointed Dr. H. B. Berney to the part-time medical staff. Mrs S. Fletcher said there were now fewer patients in hospital, yet medical salaries, etc., cost the board nearly £4,000 a year. Mr J. F. Thompson said compared with other hospitals of the same size the fees for the medical staff at the Masterton Hospital were not high. Mr H. H. Mawley, chairman, said that the fees were on the high side. Mrs J. Robertson said that she had been on the board for 4 years. Each of those years, the medical fees had risen £l,OOO a year. ’ It was decided to approve Dr. Berney’s appointment and to reconsider the matter of medical’staffing at the estimates meeting,
