DAMAGE IN PARK
APPLICATION FOR £lO REWARD. FOLLOWING CONVICTION IN MAGISTRATE’S COURT. Notice boards in the Masterton Park offer £lO reward to any person who gives information leading to the prosecution of anyone who damages flowers, etc., in the Park. In accordance with the information on the notice boards, an application for the reward was received at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, said that on the last Court day in Masterton a man was fined £2 on a charge of damaging and removing bulbs in the Park. In view of the fact that a conviction was entered, he said, the reward would have to be paid following a check up on the identity of the informant. In reply to a suggestion by a councillor that the prosecution was hardly a paying proposition on account of the large reward which had to be offered, Councillor G. W. Morice said it would be a good thing for the public to know, that the reward was paid. Mr Jordan said that in view of the amount of the fine and the reward the council could not afford too many convictions.
