BOWLING

MASTERTON CLUB.

NOTES BY “THE BOWLER.” A unique event took place on the Masterton Club’s' green on Saturday last. Mr H. H. Daniell, an ex-president of the club, stated that on behalf of the club, he had to offer his congratulations to Mr George Hayne, the president of the Wairarapa Centre, and to Mr H. Thomas, the president of the Masterton Club, as they were both celebrating their respective birthdays. On behalf of a well-wisher of the club, Mi’ Daniell presented Messrs ! Hayne and Thomas with an ornamental and well-finished seat, which would accommodate six persons, and trusted that both “George” and “Harry” would be able to play bowls for many years and, with other bowlers, occupy the seat. Messrs Hayne and Thomas suitably replied, thanking the donor of the seat. Each made special reference to the many happy games they had played on the Masterton Club’s greens. LATE MR J. C. EWINGTON. " ONE OF FOUNDERS OF CLUB The Masterton Bowling Club has lost one of its oldest and most respected members. The late Mr Charles Ewington was one of the founders of the Master ton Club, having joined up in the year 1899. Mr Edward Richards, of Cole Street. Masterton, is, so far as I am aware, the only surviving foundation member. The late Mr Ewington was very popular on the bowling green, and for many years represented his club in matches. “Charlie” was a good sport, either in winning or losing. The respect in which he was held was shown by the large number of bowlers and other friends who attended his funeral yesterday. The sympathj'- of all members of the Masterton Bowling Club is extended to Mrs Ewington and her family in their bereavement.
