GIRL GUIDES

MISS G. ALLAN FAREWELLED. BY ASSOCIATION & OTHERS. On Saturday afternoon the executive comipbtqe.,pf the Girl Guides’ Association, J ’the vice-presidents and the Guides met at Mrs Gaskin’s residence, Colombo Road, to farewell Miss Gwen Allan, who has leave of absence from the association to take up a position with the W.R.E.N.S. Miss Allan has been captain of tne 4th Tararua Company of Guides for the past 10 years. Before asking Mrs T. Jordan, the past commissioner for the district, to make a pi'esentation to Miss Allan on behalf of the executive and guiders, Mrs A. McKenzie spoke of the excellent work done by Miss Allan and of the respect in which she was held by all who had worked with her. Her fifteen years’ service as a guide and guider were amongst the longest of any in New Zealand. In making the presentation, Mrs Jordan made reference to her long association with Miss Allan and of the responsible position she had filled both as lieutenant and captain and wished hei- every success in her new position. She presented Miss Allan with a leather suit case inscribed with her initials. On behalf of the 4th Tararua Company of Guides, Marie Heath, company leader, asked Miss Allan to accept a leather writing case. The Brownies made their own gift. In reply, Miss Allan thanked those present for their kindness to her and said that her years spent in Guiding had been very happy ones. To the Guides to whom she was saying goodbye, she spoke particularly, . asking them to carry on for their new leader as they had done for her. After the presentation, afternoon tea was served by the committee and a happy time was spent in the garden, which was kindly lent for the occasion by Mrs Gaskin.
