OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS

» REHABILITATION POLICY (To the Editor.) Sir,—Projects for the rehabilitation of our ex-Service men, such as tunnelling, afforestation, reading and draining works, etc., are continually being suggested as avenues of employment for our boys when they return from overseas. Now Mr Editor, this appears to me rather “thick”—asking our boys to go and fight to protect us and at the same time planning how they can improve our country by carrying out labouring jobs when they return. May I suggest some scheme whereby those men who have not served in the armed forces could be drafted to such works and thus open up opportunities for our returning men to rehabilitate themselves in commerce and industry. Thanking you.—Yours, etc., “DIGGER.” Master ton, February 12.
