ART CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT POLICY FOR COMING YEAR. HOPES OR HOLDING EXHIBITION. The annual meeting of the Masterton Art Club was held in the Women’s Division Room last night, there being a good attendance of members. The president, Mr A. Clemas was in the chair. In reviewing the 1942 season, the chairman said that no apologies would be made for the somewhat restricted activities during the past season and that in spite of many adverse circumstances it was pleasing to note that members were neither dismayed nor discouraged nor was the enthusiasm of the club in any way diminished. It had been the policy of the executive to keep the organisation intact until such times as they could once again resume a full programme. The same policy would be adopted for 1943. The executive extended its thanks to all who had given willing service particularly Mr Maclennan and Miss Renai for criticisms, Miss Ruth Lett as hon. secretary, Miss C. Cockerill as hon. treasurer, Mrs. A. Young and the social committee and Mr J. H. Cunningham for assisting in preparing the balance sheet and acting as hon. auditor. The balance- sheet showed that the club was in a sound financial position.

,Officers for 1943 were elected as follows: —president, Mi’ A. Clemas (reelected); secretary, Miss L. Cockerill, treasurer, Miss C. Cockerill; Committee, Mesdames J. H. Cunningham, F. Daniell, C. T. Richardson, (vice-pre-sidents), A. Young, P. Hamsay, Messrs S. B. Maclennan and H. T. Thomson. The chairman stated that.every effort would be made to stage an exhibition of members’ work in 1943, the chief difficulty being the obtaining of a suitable hall. It was decided that the next meeting' of the club should take the form of a criticism and social evening to be held in April. The invitation of Mrs. L. T. Daniell to hold the meeting at her home at Akura was gratefully accepted. A vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the meeting. Supper was provided by the Social Committee.
