APPEALS IN INDIA
FOR UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE OF GANDHI. SOME MINOR DISORDERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) NEW DELHI, February 11. A committee of Indian merchants and the , Chamber of Commerce of Bombay have appealed to the Viceroy (Lord Linlithgow) to release Gandhi unconditionally, so that a beginning may be made on the removal of the deadlock. The president of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry has also sent a memorandum to Lord Linlithgow asking for Gandhi’s release. All textile mills in Ahmedabad closed yesterday. Today students left schools and colleges in Karachi and Lahore and demonstrated. Otherwise no incidents have so far been reported. The Lahore District Magistrate has prohibited for a week meetings and processions in furtherance of Congress Party propaganda.
