Biro-Bidjan, the Jewish autonomous region in the Far East near the frontier iof Manchuria, has won the All-Soviet ploughing contest. This was announced ‘over the Kuibyshev radio in October last. School children of the Jewish .autonomous region, including many evacuees from the occupied territories, ihave sown nearly 3,000 acres of tobacico. The entire crop will be reserved, as a gift for the Red Army. One thousand and sixty parcels of tobacco have already been sent to the front. The .children have also collected money from the Jewish population to buy books, games and other presents for wounded Red Army men in hospital.
