Mr Walter Morley, a .member of the Gisborne Rotary Club, was a visitor at the luncheon. Mr H. H. Daniell spoke on the political history of the Israelites from the time of Abraham to the return from the Babyionic captivity. Mr Daniell also dealt briefly with the history of the surrounding countries. He pointed out that discoveries in Nineveh had -been able to confirm many of the Biblical dates as far back as 700 B.C. Dealing particularly with the sixth ‘Century 8.C., the period of Isaiah, possibly the highest point in the growth of the Jewish religion, Mi’ Daniell said that this century was one of the most ‘.outstanding in history. In this century Rome shook off her king and formed the Republic, the Greek philosophers were at their height, and Pythagoras invented the multiplication table. In India, it was the time of Guatama Buddha and in China Lao Tse and (Confucius were teaching their philosophy. On the motion of Mr E. G. Coddington, Mr Daniell was accorded a vote of thanks for his address.
