WALL OF DEFENCES
BUILT BY THE GERMANS ALONG COASTS OF THE LOW COUNTRIES. EVACUATION OF THE CIVIL POPULATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) NEW YORK, February 10. “The Times” Berne correspondent reports that the “Essener National Zeitung” says the evacuation of the coastal population of the Low Countries to the interior has virtually been completed. Former well-known seaside resorts have been razed to make room for coast defences. The entire coast from Flushing to Ostend has been transformed into a wall of modern defences, including fire zones, minefields, artillery emplacements and naval bases. The paper adds that the German Netherlands programme is undergoing significant amendments and ex-' pensions. It is not intended to make the Netherlands a member of a league of European States, but a component part of Greater Germany.
