POLICING PACIFIC
AGAINST NEW AGGRESSION AFTER THE WAR
AMERICA MUST RETAIN BASES.
DECLARATION BY COLONEL KNOX.
(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, Noon.) WASHINGTON, February 9. Testifying before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Colonel Knox said the United States must maintain- control of the Pacific after the war, retaining the necessary network of air and naval bases to disarm Japan on the sea and keep her disarmed for a long time. He expressed the opinion that lendlease will aid the United States materially in obtaining the desired base’s throughout the Pacific and favoured negotiations for these bases being begun without delay. He added: “We are not avid for more territory, but it would be wise to insist on complete control of sufficient bases to prevent another war of aggression in the future.”
