Accident Case. Mr H. S. Berkett, of Manaia Road, was admitted to the Masterton Hospital yesterday afternoon with an injury to his foot which he received when he dropped a strainer post on it. Sharks in Wellington Harbour. Warm water temperatures are tempting sharks to do their sun-bathing near the shores of Wellington Harbour. On Saturday afternoon fishermen netting the waters of Day’s Bay caught five sharks in one haul, each at least 30 inches in length. Reservist Remanded. , Charge dwith having-failed to report for military service, Ivan Septimus Priest, of Auckland, and formerly of Eketahuna, aged 24 years, appeared before Mr L. J. Taylor, J.P., in the Masterton Magistrate’s Court this morning. Defendant was remanded until Thursday. Floods in Buller District. Heavy rain on Saturday and yesterday morning was responsible for a consderable amount of damage to the road and the railway in the northern part the Buller district. Slips occurred on the Stockton public road, causing a blockage which has since been cleared. A big slip on the railway on the Seddonville side of the tunnel is temporarily holding up traffic over that part of the line. Slips also occurred on the Hector and Mokihinui roads, and also on the Karamea Road, north of Moki>hinui, and gangs of men are at work clearing up the debris. The weather has since improved, and most of the damage done should soon be repaired. Bequests to Art Gallery. By the will of Mr Percy Halsted, which has been sworn for probate purposes at a value of under £lOO,OOO, his valuable art collections have been bequeathed to the Dunedin Public. Art Gallery Society and the Otago Museum. These included oils and water colours by well-known artists, as well as a number of art objects. Provision is also made for selection by the society of any further paintings which testator’s daughters may not desire to accept. There are two other public bequests under Mr Halsted’s will as follows:—To the Jewish Lads’ Brigade, London, £250, to an endowment fund, and to the New Zealand Nurses’ Memorial Fund, £lOO. Reception to Americans. A reception to officials of the American Consulate, officers of the United States Army, and a member of the American Red Cross, was given on Saturday at Ngaruawahia Pa by King Koroki and Princess Te Puea. It was the third series of receptions which the Waikato tribes have offered the Americans since they to New Zealand. All the colour of the traditional Maori welcome greeted the Americans. At 7 p.m. an extraordinarily varied dinner was served, all the joints and vegetables having been cooked, Maori fashion, in hangis. This was followed by an entertainment comprising hakas, action songs and dances. ,At supper, Princess Te Puea addressed to the Americans a short speech of remembrance, and presented a carved collecting box for use by the American Red Cross.
