STATE THEATRE

A COMEDY GEM. One of the comedy gems of the season is featured tonight on the programme at the State Theatre. This is “The Perfect Snob,” which stars Charlie Ruggles, Charlotte Greenwood, Lynn Bari, and Cornel Wilde. Honolulu in pre-blitz days provides the setting for the fun, and under the tropical moon is carried, on a manhunt, the quarry being a millionaire who will make a useful son-in-law. The comedy is carried through at a fast and furious rate, and laughs by the dozen are the order of the day. Contrast is provided by “Hard Steel,” which is a powerfully dramatic story of a soulless workman who would sacrifice everything, .including his wife and fellow-workmen, in his lust for power. Starring in this production is Wilfrid Lawson, famous for his performance in “Pygmalion,” and Betty Stockfield.
