» — SWIMMING CLUB WEEKLY COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) f Despite the boisterous weather on Monday evening, the weekly meeting of the Carterton Swimming Club was held at the municipal baths. The events were keenly contested, the results being as follow: — 25 yards junior boys’ race. —A. Booth 1, R. Goodin 2, V. Mellish 3. 25 yards junior girls’ race. —A. Fairbrother 1. Beginners’ race. —E. Mellish 1, V. Booth 2, V. Mellish 3. 50 yards intermediate boys’ race. —B. McPhee 1, V. Desmond 2, F. Booth 3. 50 yards ladies’ handicap.— J. Paterson 1, A. Fairbrothcr 2. 75 yards senior boys’ race. —P. Bond 1, J. Berry 2, Hurndell 3. Junior dive.—L. Spooner 1, P. Bond 2, L. McPhee 3. Relay race—A. Booth, F. Booth, B. McPhee, V. Desmond, 1; Hurndell, L. Paterson, A. Fairbrother, J. Paterson, 2. MAORI VOCALISTS AN ENJOYABLE CONCERT. A very enjoyable concert given in St. Mary’s Hall, Carterton, on Sunday evening by a party of Maori vocalists and dancers from Masterton, resulted in an encouraging contribution towards the expenses of the large-scale repairs to the Convent school, which was badly damaged by the earthquake. The concert party was under the direction of Miss Mary Greenlees, whose engaging personality and undoubted talent contributed largely to the success of the items, which met with the enthusiastic applause of the audience which packed the building. The choir showed an unusual versatility by its successful and charming renderings of songs sacred and classical. Maori and European, old and modern. Individual items included: Poi dances by Peggy Broughton, Queenie Rimene and Rosina Kawana; solo hula, Rua Karaitiana; Irish jig, Irene Greenlees; song, “Believe Me,” Tommy and John Fatete ;“Loch Lomond,’ Marua Patete; “Chatter-Nooga-Chooshoo,” M. Greenless. Miss Buckley was a competent pianist. At the conclusion, Miss Greenlees was the recipient of a gift from the con-, cert party, as also was Pat Carroll, who' is presently to leave for St. Patrick’s College, Silverstream. Both presentations were made by the Very Rev. Father Moore. Father Connor thanked the performers. Bowling. In a champion singles game, Hughan beat Kilmister, 18/13. Colson and Daysh (s) beat Hall and Foss (s), 23/10, in a game for the DeLacey Buttons. REGENT THEATRE “DANGEROUS MOONLIGHT.” “Dangerous Moonlight,” starring Anton Walbrook, Derrick de Marney and Sally Gray,” will be finally shown tonight. It is an outstanding picture which should not be missed.
