Accident Case.
Mrs F. E. Sutton, of 25 Opaki Road, was taken by ambulance to the Masterton Hospital last night with scalp wounds which she is stated to have received as a result of a fall. Her condition is satisfactory.
Air Carnival Transport. The Band Committee which had been making arrangements in connection with the of the Band of the New Zealand Royal Air Force to Carterton and Masterton, after having instituted enquiries, now find that it has been unable to arrange transport to the patriotic carnival at Carterton this evening.
Returned Servicemen.
At a meeting of the Tararua Electric Power Board a circular was received from the Rehabilitation Board in connection with employing returned servicemen both skilled and unskilled in some work which would result in definite benefit to the local community or nationally. The matter was referred to the two executive officers of the Board to investigate.
Enjoyable Dance. The Masonic Hall, Masterton, was well filled last night when the sth Squadron, Independent Mounted Rifles, held a private dance. Sergeant Major J. L. Blumsky was an efficient M.C. and the music was supplied by J. Barnes’s orchestra. The hall was artistically decorated. Ballets were given by Mrs Miller Hope’s concert party —the music foi' which was played by Mrs Miller Hope and Miss Mollie Iveson. These were much appreciated as were other musical items. The dance proved most successful and enjoyable.
Shearing Achievement. A notable shearing achievement is claimed on behalf of two Te Puke brothers. It is stated that theii’ tallies for shearing ewes over' three days of nine hours each under ordinary conditions were 981 and 961, giving daily averages of 327 and 320. The younger brother, whose tally was slightly below the other, is said to be 20 years of age, and is now in his third shearing season. It is claimed that, in addition to the shearing being fast, it was clean and consistent.
