The Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) returned to Wellington from Christchurch yesterday. Miss Alison ■ White, Kirton Street, Masterton, has returned from Christchurch. Miss Horner, Nelson, is the guest of Mrs J. A. E. Kerslake, Hogg Crescent, Masterton. Mrs E. J. Jenkins, Renall Street, Masterton, has returned from a visit to Paraparaumu Beach. Mrs J. S. Nugent, who has been the guest of Mrs W. L. Hunter, Coradine Street, Masterton, has returned to Gisborne.

Mr and Mrs D. E. Williams, of Masterton, announce the engagement of their fourth daughter, May, to PilotOfficer George Perrott, R.N.Z.A.F., only son of Mr and Mrs J. J. Perrott, of Christchurch.

The engagement is announced of Elfie, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Vernon Reed, Paihia, Bay of . Islands, and Major J. Kennedy Elliott, N.Z.M.C., 2nd N.Z.E.F., Middle East, eldest son of Sir James and Lady Elliott. The engaement is announced of Dorothy Sheila, younger daughter of the Hon and Mrs H. G. R. Mason, Wellington, to Flying Officer Jack William, •R.N.Z.A.F., elder son of Mr and the late Mrs J. H. Hutchings, Wellington. The death occurred recently at Collingwood, Nelson, of Mr Murdoch McKenzie, a son of the late Mr and Mrs Donald McKenzie, well-known settlers of Kopuaranga. The late Mr McKenzie, who was born in Kopuaranga, was 68 years of age. In his younger days he was a good athlete and ne spent some time in Australia, exploring about 60 miles of the Flinders River, an area never before traversed by Europeans. For some years he was farming in the Tiraumea district and later took up a property at Matawai, Gisborne, and then at Collingwood, where he had lived for the past 20 years or so. He is survived by a widow, one son and one daughter. Messrs R. D. McKenzie, Kopuaranga, and Donald McKenzie, Woodville, are brothers.
