MAGISTRATES COURT

SITTING IN MASTERTON TODAY. SMALL LIST OF CASES. The fortnightly sitting of the Masterton Magistrate’s Court was held in Masterton this morning. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., was on the Bench. Jack Phelps was fined £1 and 10s costs on a charge of having ridden a cycle after dark without a light. J. R. Nicol was fined £3 and 10s costs for having had intoxicating liquor in his possession near a dance hall in Masterton. Mate Mlikota, a Yugoslav, was fined £2 and 10s costs for failing, as an alien, to notify a change of address. Mr J. Macfarlane Laing, who appeared for Mlikota, said that his client was not an enemy alien and was intensely patriotic. “It isn’t as if Mlikota has been out of sight as he has been very much under the police eye,” observed Mr Lawry.
