AIR FORCE BAND
VISIT TO WAIRARAPA PRESENTATION OF THE WARSAW CONCERTO. PATRIOTIC BALL TO BE HELD IN CARTERTON. The Royal New Zealand Air Force Band will arrive in Masterton tomorrow afternoon on its visit to the Wairarapa. One of the pincipal features of its visit will be the presentation, of the Warsaw Concerto at a concert at the Regent Theatre on Sunday night. This will be one of the few times that this concerto has even been played by a military band. The band, it is stated, has the honour of being the first military band' to have ever played this concerto. A special musical score was arranged by Flight-Lieutenant Gladstone Hill. The concerto was brought into prominence by being featured in the film “Dangerous Moonlight.” The long hours of practice put in by members of the band in mastering the difficult concerto have resulted, it is claimed, in a very finished production.
On arrival in Masterton tomorrow afternoon, the band will march through the streets. On Saturday there will be an afternoon programme at the Carterton Showgrounds followed by a ball in the State Theatre, at which the dance section of the band will play the music. On Sunday afternoon, the band will present a ceremonial parade on the Masterton Park Oval and the programme will conclude with a concert in the Regent Theatre on Sunday night. The net takings will be donated to the district’s quota of the Patriotic Fund. Box plan is now open at Messrs Steele & Bull’s daily till Saturday noon, at the Regent Theatre each evening, and on Saturday afternoon.
