FEDERAL WAGES TAX

A new Australia Federal wages tax, in addition to existing income tax, will be imposed from £lO4 yearly. The first deductions for the new tax will be made as from April 1. The extra taxation will start at 6d in £1 and will increase to a maximum of Is 6d in £l. The revenue, which is expected to amount to £40,000,000 a year, eventually will be used mainly for the new social services, but temporarily will be used to assist to finance the war.
