FIRST WORKING MAN MEMBER OF BRITISH CABINET
DEATH OF JOHN BURNS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.5 a.m.) LONDON, January 24. The death has occurred at the age of 84 years, of Mr. John Burns. He was the first working man. to become a member of the Cabinet, Born in London in 1858, Mr. John Burns.-,o represented Battersea as a Labour members in the House of Comcons from 1892 to 1918. He was President of the Local Government Board from 1905 to 1914 and became President of the Board of Trade in 1914. Fie resigned from the Asquith Cabinet in the same year on the declaration of war against Germany.
