EKETAHUNA
LATE MR L. HOULBROOKE LARGELY ATTENDED FUNERAL. (“Times-Age” Special.) The funeral of the late Mr L. Houlbrooke took place at Eketahuna on Wednesday afternoon and was largely attended. A service was held at St. Cuthbert’s Church by the Rev. J. C. W. Mutter, who also officiated at the graveside. The casket was draped with the Union Jack, the late Mr Houlbrooke having been a returned soldier. He served in the Great War and was at Gallipoli. The pall-bearers from the church to the cemetery were Messrs Huia, Gordon, Geoffrey and Reginald Houlbrooke, L. Curtis and W. E. Moss, and at the cemetery Messrs A. H. Herbert, H. E. Greathead, R. Dickson, J. B. Carruthers, Pickett and Johnson. Mr W. O Twentyman read the Masonic funeral service at the graveside. Messrs R. J. King and J. Shearer were present, representing the Wairarapa Royal Arch Chapter. A large number of beautiful wreaths were received as well as messages of sympathy, including one from Sir Cyril Newall. Last year the late Mr Houlbrooke held office as Wellington Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies and was present at the installation of Sir Cyril Newall.
