MARTINBOROUGH
OBITUARY , MR C. W. F. SKILL. (“Times-Age” Special.) The death occurred in Martinborough last night of a well known and highly respected member of the community in Mr Charles William Frederick Skill, former mayor of Martinborough. Mr Skill had officiated at a swimming carnival last night and his sudden passing came as a great shock to his friends. The late Mr Skill took an active interest in community affairs and interested himself in anything which benefited the town. He was born at Kilbirnle, Wellington, 48 years ago and took up his residence in Martinborough some fourteen years ago where he had since been engaged in business. Mr Skill served as mayor of Martinborough for several terms and at the time of his death was chairman of the works committee of the Borough Council. He was a keen sportsman and represented Wairarapa at hockey. At the time of his death Mr Skill was president of the Martinborough Swimming Club, president of the Martinborough Miniature Rifle Club, and past president of the Martinborough Bowling Club. Mr Skill was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends from whom sympathy will be extended to Mrs Skill in her bereavement. An only son predeceased Mr Skill some years ago.
Mr Skill was a member of the Masonic fraternity in Wellington and was also a member of an Odd Fellows’ Lodge in Wellington.
