AIRGRAPH SERVICE

LETTERS TO NEW ZEALAND FORCES IN BRITAIN & CANADA. MAY BE EXTENDED LATER TO MIDDLE EAST. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The introduction of an airgraph service in an outward direction from New. Zealand as from Monday next is announced by the Postmaster-General (Mr Webb). At the outset the service will apply only to messages addressed to members of the armed forces (including members of the Mercantile Marine), in Canada and Britain, for which destinations the service should offer an appreciably accelerated means of communication. The charge for each message will be fivepence. Mr Webb stated that airgraph forms are now available at all post offices. He urged senders to study carefully the instructions on the back of the forms before .writing their messages, and said it was important that the addresses should be written as large as possible, in ink, in clear, block letters. He added that inquiries were now being made to ascertain whether an airgraph service to the Middle East would offer any worth while advantage in transmission time over that of letters sent by ordinary surface means. If it were found that there was likely to be an advantage in transmission time, the service would be extended to the Middle East at an early date.
