Mr D. Barnes has been reappointed a director of the State Advances Corporation. Mr E. J. Fawcett, whose appointment as Director-General of Agriculture was announced yesterday, has been appointed Primary Industries Controller. The engagement is announced of Wilma, only daughter of Mr and Mrs D. McLennan, of Kilbirnie, and Harold, second son of Mr and Mrs H. J. Cooper, of Opaki. The death is reported from Wanganui of Mr Edward Lucena, aged 75 years. Fourth son of William Lancaster Lucena, an early settler in the Wairarapa district, Mr Lucena was born at Pigeon Bush, near Featherston. He was educated at Wellington College and Wanganui Collegiate School and joined his father, who had retired to live at “The Oaks,” South Road, Hawera. Mr Lucena played representative Rugby, cricket and polo for Taranaki. Mr Lucena went to Wanganui more than 30 years ago with his wife, formerly Miss Aileen Agnes Coffey, daughter of the well-known Maori interpreter in Hawera. Mr Lucena’s wife predeceased him three years ago.
