STATE THEATRE

“THE WESTERNER.” “The Westerner” will be finally shown tonight. DOUBLE FEATURE PROGRAMME Popular tastes are admirably catered for in the well-balanced programme which will be shown tomorrow night at the State Theatre. The music and songs of “Cadet Girl” are reminiscent of the days when film producers “discovered” Broadway, and a topical slant is given by the connection of the Broadway theme with the famous military academy at West Point. The story is hustled through at a snappy tempo, and the high quality of the musical selections makes it a film to remember. Carol Landis is the charming heroine, , and George Montgomery is an ideal partner.

The other feature is “The Man Who Wouldn’t Die.” The setting for this new mystery film is a cemetery which three men approach with a body. The grave is ready, “black as the pit from pole to pole.” A shot rings out from a nearby house. The burial party leaves to investigate. When they come back the corpse has vanished. That’s a start good enough foi’ any mystery drama, but there is a lot more excitement Before “The Man Who Wouldn’t Die” finally fades from the screen. Lloyd Nolan, who has distinguished himself in many thrillers in the past few years, plays the lead, and plays it well.
