4 BUSY PERIOD YESTERDAY.

Yesterday afternoon the Carter ton Railway Station presented a very busy appearance. Large consignments of wool, cheese and lambs were being loaded ready for transit to Wellington. Three trains were at the station at one time and the staff was very busy. OBITUARY MRS JANE BAMBRY. The death occurred at her residence, Dalefield, yesterday of Mrs Jane Bambry, a very old and respected resident. The late Mrs Bambry met with an accident quite recently, in which she suffered a fractured hip. Owing to her advanced age of 81 years she failed to recover.
She was the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs George Knowles, early settlers of Dalefield, and is survived by her husband and a grown-up family of two sons and four daughters. The sons are Messrs Clifford, Clifton Avenue, Carterton, and Percy Bambry, Dalefield, and the daughters Mesdames C. Garrity. Dyerville, Martinborough; A. Smith, Dalefield; Atkins, Dalefield, and G. Wilton, West Taratahi. Two sons and a daughter predeceased her some years ago, the eldest son being a victim of the epidemic in 1918 and the second son died of injuries received in the 1914-18 war. The eldest daughter, Mrs L. Arcus, died some years ago. The late Mrs Bambry is also survived by a brother, Mr W. Waterson, of Victoria Street, Carterton, and three sisters, Miss M. Waterson, Pembroke Street, Carterton, Mrs Herbert Knowles, Dalefield, and Mrs H. Peters, Pembroke Street, Carterton. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving her late residence. Dalefield, for the Clareville Cemetery, after a service commencing at 1 o’clock. Card Evening. The prize-winners at the Boy Scout card tournament were Mesdames A. Knutson 1, and Edwards 2; men’s prizes, G. Challis 1, Mrs Paterson 2. There was a good attendance. Personal. Able Seaman Alan Roydhouse, is spending leave with his parents, Mr and Mrs R. W. Roydhouse, Tyne Street, Carterton. Mr and Mrs E.. H. Hawker have received a cable message from Corporal Ross Hawker, sending the season’s greetings and saying that he was fit and well. | Mr W. Martin, headmaster of the Carterton District High School, has gone to Arthur’s Pass on holiday. Miss N. Lorenzen, of Seddon Street, Carterton, left yesterday afternoon on a visit to Nelson.
Members of the Carterton Football Club and many residents gathered at the St Mary’s Hall last evening to entertain Mr C. M. Kiddie, secretary of the Carterton Football Club, who is leaving to join the Air Force. The evening was taken up with, dancing to music played by Miss Mary Herrick. Mr J. Fitzgerald was M.C. Mr C. Gray, president of the club, presented the guest with a money belt amid applause and the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Supper was provided and a most enjoyable evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Mr Keith Parker, the victim of the deer shooting accident yesterday, who is a patient in Croydon Hospital, Carterton, is progressing favourably. REGENT THEATRE . “49th PARALLEL.” The sensational drama “49th Parallel” will be shown tonight. It is one of the greatest pictures ever brought before the public. Laurence Olivier, Leslie Howard and Raymond Massey present the best roles of their screen careers.
