BURMA CAMPAIGN
BRITISH ADVANCE ON AKYAB. JAPANESE INTENTIONS UNCERTAIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, January 5. It is still uncertain whether the Japanese on the Arakan coast intend to defend Akyab or to withdraw, says Reuter’s correspondent on the Burma front. It is difficult to establish whether ships arriving at and leaving Akyab during the last few days have been bringing in supplies or taking off troops. The British supply problem is increasing as we near Akyab. The Japanese meantime are making short, sharp attacks from the jungle and from waterways.
