STATE THEATRE

“THIEF OF BAGDAD.”

“The Thief of Bagdad” will be finally shown tonight. There will also be a special late session after the ordinary programme, commencing at 10 o clock, when “Miss Annie Rooney” will be presented. “MISS ANNIE ROONEY.” The picture to be screened tomorrow night, “Miss Annie Rooney,” is the latest presentation of Shirley Temple. This popular child actress has had many triumphs in her career, and has headed the most popular movie artist poll on several occasions. In “Miss Annie Rooney” she has probably the best role of her career, there being plenty of opportunity for her to show her undoubted ability. The picture is one which should be popular with patrons because of its heart interest. Shirley Temple has a delightful part and does full justice to it. She does not overdo a role which calls for clever acting. In an attractive presentation she at once appeals to the audience, and the former brilliant child actress is heading for an outstanding career as an adult artist in the talkies. The picture is certainly an excellent New Year offering. Supporting Shirley Temple are William Gargan, Guy Kibbee and Dickie Moore, who have excellent roles. This is Shirley Temple’s first picture in three years, and is different from all her previous hits. There will be matinees on Friday, Saturday and Monday afternoons, commencing at 2.15 o’clock.
