OBITUARY

SIR NEVILE HENDERSON. LAST BRITISH AMBASSADOR TO GERMANY. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, December 30. The death has occurred of Sir Nevile Henderson, who was British Ambassador to Germany from 1937 until the outbreak of war. The “Evening Standard” diarist reveals that Sir Nevile Henderson received sums aggregating five figures for his book, “Failure of a Mission,” all of which he gave to charity. Sir N. Henderson's doctors six months ago told him he had about six weeks to live. He decided to write a book “to take his mind off things.” It is the story of his dog. A letter arrived at Sir N. Henderson’s home a few hours after his death, advising him that the manuscript had been accepted for publication.

MR T. L. L. MASON. The death occurred last night of Mr Thomas Lewis Logan Mason, of Nursery Road, Masterton, and late of Eketahuna. The late Mr Mason had been in ill-health for the past eight years. Born in Christchurch 49 years ago, the second son of Mrs T. B. Mason and the late Mr Mason, he had lived in Eketahuna practically all his life, arriving there when he was nine months old. He saw service in the Great War, leaving New Zealand with the Main Body as a -member of the Eleventh Battery of the New Zealand Field Artillery. He married the eldest daughter of Mrs Morriss and the late Mr B. Morriss, of Rongokokako. Four years ago he took up his residence in Masterton. A widow, one daughter, three brothers and two sisters are left to mourn their loss. The funeral will be a private one. MR G. H. NORLING. The death occurred at the Masterton Hospital last night of Mr Gustaf Henry Norling, of Pleckville, Eketahuna. The late Mr Norling was born at Eketahuna 54 years ago, and had resided all his life on the one property, being still in occupation at the time of his death of the farm on which he was born. He was unmarried.

The funeral will take place on Saturday, leaving St Cuthbert’s Church, Eketahuna, following a service at 2 p.m., for the Eketahuna Cemetery.
