The Governor-General, attended by Major C. J. Holland-Martin, left Ramcliff yesterday for North Canterbury. His. Excellency will return to Raincliff tonight.

Mrs J. Smith, of Herbert Street, Masterton, will attain her 90th birthday tomorrow (New Year’s Day). Miss Joyce Tickmer, of Hataitai, Wellington, who has been spending a holiday in Masterton, returned to her home today.

The death occurred at Palmerston North on Tuesday of Mr Richard Evans, formerly of Pahiatua, at the age of 73 years.

The engagement is announced of Bessie, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Hill, Wellington, and Thomas, eldest son of Mr and Mrs L. E. Corlett, Masterton.

Among the guests who attended the Irvine-Mygind wedding yesterday were Mrs E. Munn and her daughter, Jean, of Dallington, Christchurch, who are at present staying with Mrs B. Munn, Totara Street, Lansdowne. The death has occurred of Mr Henry Kibble-white, of Hamilton, aged 82. He was born at Fernridge, Wairarapa, and was a son of Mr and Mrs Richard Kibblewhite, pioneers of the Wairarapa. He was a great-grandson of Viscount Kibblewhite, the commander of a naval force which fought against the Dutch 150 years ago. Mr Kibblewhite was associated with the building trade and became an architect and for many years he was in Wanganui. He went to Hamilton 26 years ago. He is survived by his wife.
