CARTERTON
OBITUARY MRS GEORGINA ESTHER WILEY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The death occurred at the Masterton Hospital last evening of Mrs Georgina Esther Wiley, of Broadway, Carterton. Deceased had been in ill health for a long time and yesterday afternoon she was taken to the hospital where she died some six hours later. Of a quiet, unassuming nature she was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends. Born at West Taratahi she was the daughter of Mr,Vander and the late Mrs Lee, old and respected settlers of the Carterton district. Her husband. Mr C. D. Wiley, was accidentally killed in an accident when a motor car in which he was riding collided with a train at Clareville railway crossing in 1918. Deceased is survived by a grown-up family of four sons, all of whom are wearing the King’s uniform, and two daughters. The sons are Privates Norman and Leslie (prisoners of war in Italy), Pte. Frank, overseas, and Pte. Jack, of the Territorial Force. The daughters are Mesdames J. Spicer. Woodville, and J. Tozer, Masterton. One daughter died some years ago. Mesdames Frank Rawlings and J. Nielson, Carterton, R. Healey, Palmerston North. W. Smith, Dalefield, are sisters and Messrs F. Lee.- Carterton, and Vivian, Carrington, brothers. There are five grandchildren. The funeral, which will be-a private one, will take place on Thursday. Personal Items. Fifty years ago yesterday, at Carterton, the marriage took place of Rebecca Elenor, daughter of the late Mi’ and Mrs Michael Ryan, and Ernest, son of the late Mr and Mrs J. Knight. Their present address is 19 Abbott Road, Ngaio, and their golden wedding was fittingly celebrated yesterday. Troopers V. Clutterbuck and J. Bridge left yesterday for camp after having spent leave in Carterton. Prior to their departure they received gifts from the citizens of Carterton, Mr P. A. Cole, Town Clerk, making the presentations in the absence of the Mayor, who is away on holiday. A parcel of woollen garments was also handed to them on behalf of the members of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. REGENT THEATRE “THE GREAT WALTZ.” The greatest music ever composed by Strauss will be heard in “The Great Waltz,” a heart-throbing drama telling a pretty story. The chief roles are in the hands of Luise Rainer, Fernand Gravet and Miliza Korjus.
