FREEZING INDUSTRY
PROVISION OF LABOUR. TO MEET PEAK DEMAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, December 29. Direction into the freezing industry of men liable for immediate military service is being undertaken by the Taranaki District Manpower Officer in accordance with instructions from the War Cabinet. The policy adopted in an attempt to furnish the industry with sufficient labour to meet the demand of the peak killing period is that it is better to direct into industry men at present in civil life who are liable for immediate military service than to withdraw men from the Army, because of the disorganisation caused by the latter course. The men directed will undertake whatever work is allocated by the management and receive award rates. They will be transported to and from work, a charge being made.
