GREYTOWN
GAY GATHERING HOSPITAL AND BUCHANAN HOME. I (“Times-Age” Special.) • The usual Christmas was spent at the Greytown Hospital and Buchanan Home, all the wards being gay with decorations and beautiful flowers sent in by friends. Owing to the generosity of the residents of Greytown, Ahikouka, Morison’s Bush, Battersea and to the efforts of Mrs V. Harris who spent her time collecting, all the patients had their usual Christmas gifts and a merry time was spent with Father Christmas. Carol singers, which consisted of the nursing staff and members of the Methodist Church Choir visited all the wards on Christmas Eve. On Christmas morning at 6.30 o’clock the vicar held a Communion service in the nurses’ dining room which was well attended by the staff and some old patients. The time had not altered the menu for Christmas Day and everyone enjoyed the many good things provided. There were bright faces especially amongst the combined staff, who willingly co-oper-ated to make the day a pleasant one. Miss Card, Mayoress of Featherston, added an extra ray of sunshine by visiting her friends, and all were pleased to see that she has recovered from her illness. Miss Card has been greatly missed during the last few months, as for over twenty-five years she has paid weekly visits to the hospital and Home, bringing cheer and fruit to all patients. Surely this is a record. Personal Items. Mr G. Burns has returned from a holiday spent in the South. Mr F. Dewhirst, manager of the Grey town branch of the Bank of New Zealand, expects to take up his new duties at Petone early in March. Mr and Mrs N. S. McLeod have taken a house in Masterton for the holidays. Mr and Mrs G. Burt, of Island Bay, are the guests of Mrs R. Thomas,' Moroa. ■ Mr and Mrs D. Molesworth and family, of Wellington, are staying with Mr and Mrs F. Best, Main Street. TOWN HALL “HURRICANE SMITH.” Tomorrow night there will be a double feature bill. “Hurricane Smith” is a thrilling drama in which Ray Middleton and Jane Wyatt have the leading roles. Tire “East Side Kids,” as boissterous and rowdy as ever, parade their varied talents in “Bowery Blitzkrieg,” a fast and furious bit of entertainment. The gang, which features such performers as Leo Gorcey, Bobby Jordan and Huntz Hall, are ably assisted by a strong supporting cast that includes Warren Hull, Charlotte Henry and Jack Mulhall.
