TOBACCO SUPPLIES
LIKELY TO BE MAINTAINED.
STATEMENT BY MINISTER.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) . WELLINGTON, This Day. A statement that there is a reasonable prospect of smokers receiving- all necessary supplies of tobacco was made by the Minister of Supply (Mr Sullivan). He said that although there might on occasion have been temporary shortages of particular brands, smokers in New Zealand had been particularly fortunate, partly for the reason that under the administration of the New Zealand Tobacco Board there had been a substantial development in the production of locally-grown leaf, and because certain shipments of leaf had been recently landed. Arrangements were being completed for further supplies from overseas, and although difficulties of shipping and manufacture in war time * might interfere with the programme, there was still a reasonable prospect of smokers receiving all necessary supplies. s
