BUYING IN ADVANCE
AS ANTI-INFLATION MEASURE .PLAN TO BE ANNOUNCED IN UNITED STATES. PRESENT PAYMENT FOR POSTWAR GOODS. (By Telegraph—(Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day. 10.0 a.m.) WASHINGTON, December 23. A “buy in advance” plan will shortly be announced by the Office of Price Administration. Under this plan, buyers will pay instalments, in either cash or war bonds, for the delivery after the war of motor-cars, pianos, refrigerators, heaters and other durable goods. The plan is designed primarily to “synhon off” excess consumer purchasing power, which economists believe is a volatile inflationary force. Economists estimate that the restriction of the scheme to specified articles will absorb 6,000 million dollars of purchasing power. The money will be deposited with the Treasury, which will pay the manufacturers when the goods are delivered after the war.
