RUSH OF BUYING
SHOP STOCKS CLEARED IN SYDNEY. DEMAND FOR SECOND-HAND GOODS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.45 p.m.) . SYDNEY, This Day. A rush of Christmas buying has almost exhausted stocks of many rationed goods in city shops. Fountain pens, pencils, clocks-and watches are now almost unobtainable at most city jewellers. Labour-saving electrical equipment, such as toasters, irons and cleaners, are equally scarce. Second-hand, dealers report a rush on a short supply of household goods, such as saucepans, cutlery, crockery and blankets, as presents for newly-married-couples. Literally millions of books have been sold this week as Christmas presents. Stocks of many recently-pub-lished war and political books are exhausted. Roast rabbit will replace the traditional poultry on many Christmas dinner tables in Sydney. Poultry stocks are so low that prices are the highest on record.
